It all depends on how much you like to “rough it.” depends on if your scared to get cold and hungry or if you want warm water every morning. Me and my brother went into the white mountains last year for a while just me and him our 60lb packs some canned food machetes and a tarp. no tent. And we had a blast!

I have one of these, although the snow is not that heavy.
I keep it heated year round (heat set at 50) and pay a security service to check it daily. A burst pipe can cause more damage then you would imagine, I learned this the hard way a few years ago.
I also have to pay once a year to have the land cleared 100 feet from the house, a requirement of the fire marshall. It seems that one the trees needs maintenance at least yearly too.
All in all the cabin costs me about 1500 a year.

Landlord brought up some good points, but you still need to pay taxes, insurance which is quite steep on a second home. Utilities must be paid or you pay for turn off and on. You also need to pay someone to plow the drive way and quite possibly to clear the snow off the roof to prevent cave in.
